Charles Ryder

July 28, 1988 — November 15, 2021

Burlington

Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Charles “Chad” William Ryder on November 15, 2021.  He traveled the world as a Scout in the 6/8 Calvary of the United States Army, but always called Kentucky home.  He entered the world on July 28, 1988, with as much tenacity as he left.  He remains a beloved son of Charles and Michelle Ryder, brother of Emily Rose Lowe and Kyle Ryder, and uncle of Wyatt Lowe.  He was preceded in death by his niece, Maggie Rose, grandparents Charles and Carol Ryder, LaDonna Backmeyer, and William and Gloria Botta. Chad was a unique soul who was strong in his convictions, loyal to those he loved, and a patriot through and through.  He was a student at Northern Kentucky University, earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice and was working towards a second degree in Marketing.  He worked at the Veterans’ Resource Station throughout his time at NKU, helping other Vets as they navigated college after service. Chad loved country music and attending live concerts, especially Eric Church.  He was an avid movie watcher and vehemently claimed Die Hard as his favorite Christmas movie.   A true Cincinnati Reds fan through the highs and lows and enjoyed cheering on the Bengals and UK teams.  He was a child at heart and loved watching cartoons in the morning with his nephew and playing wiffleball. Chad had many adventures through out his shortened life and was at home in the outdoors.  He hiked part of the Appalachian Trail, enjoyed camping, rock-climbing and fishing. Chad leaves behind friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandfather, siblings, nephew and parents that will forever miss his loud voice and laughter.Continuing his family’s legacy of service, Chad served as a Calvary Scout for nine years.  He completed two tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.  In lieu of flowers, we ask a donation to be made in Chad’s name to the Gary Sinise Foundation, assisting veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Visitation will be held on Monday November 22 from 6pm-8pm and funeral service with military honors on Tuesday November 23 at 11am. Both are being held at Floral Hills Memorial Garden in Taylor Mill, Ky.
