James Vertreese McQueary, 77, of Covington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Hospice of St. Elizabeth in Edgewood. He was born on February 20, 1942 in Casey County to the late Lee Otis and Nettie Knight McQueary.
At a young age, James went to work at his family’s sawmill business. As an adult, James settled in Northern Kentucky and eventually became a truck driver for multiple companies including, most recently, Univar USA. Throughout his life, James enjoyed being on the road both for his employer as well as with his family traveling. James retired from his profession, and spent much of his later years enjoying time with family and dining out at his favorite restaurants. James was a longtime member and deacon of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Covington. He was a devout and faithful Christian servant, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving and loyal wife of 41 years, Sharon Kay McQueary. Along with his wife, he is survived by: three sons, James McQueary (Amy) of Anderson, Indiana, Lee Richardson (Suzanna) of Covington, and Matthew McQueary (Randi) of Alexandria, Kentucky; three daughters, Cara McQueary of Wichita, Kansas, Laura Porter (Paul) of Marion, Indiana, and Candie Cuthbertson of Erlanger, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jamison and Hannah McQueary, Herb, Nathan, and Malcolm Cuthbertson, Michael McQueary, Heather, Ashley, and Damian Richardson, and Spencer and Lincoln McQueary and Ashley (Brandon) Ransford and Noel and Jordan Pinto. James also has 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 1PM at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Visitation will take place earlier in the day from 11AM to 1PM.
