Juanita Christophel, 60, of Independence, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023. Juanita was born October 24, 1962, in Bogotá, Colombia, the daughter of the late Pedro and Gloria Carreno. Juanita battled cancer for 20 years of her life. Juanita completed a four year journalism degree in Bogotá and then studied at a Catholic college for a year in Paris. She worked at American Airlines in Bogotá, Colombia before coming to the states, where she did customer service. Juanita was fluent in three languages. She volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital Cancer Center and gift shop. She was known for her love for life, her joy, her courage, her optimism, the way she laughed, being an old soul, her piercing eyes, and she always had a smile on her face. She is survived by her husband, Gregory Christophel; sister, Ana Maria Soto; brother, Pedro Carreno; sisters-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 1:30 PM at St. Patrick Church (3285 Mills Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015). Burial will take place on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Alban Cemetery in Michigan at 1:30 PM. Floral Hills is honored to serve Juanita’s family.
