Noel Eugene Record, 95, of Ft. Thomas, KY passed away Monday, January 30, 2023 at Tri Health Rehabilitation Center in Cincinnati, OH.  He was born February 19, 1927, in Covington, KY.  He was predeceased by loving parents Noel H and Esther Yelton Record and sister Virginia “Snitzie” Baird.   He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Berryman Record, with whom he just celebrated 75 years of marriage.  Also surviving are son Kenneth E. Record and daughter Karen (Terry) Archer and brother-in-law Robert Baird and nieces Pamela (Kevin) Green and Paula (Frank) Tucker and numerous family and friends.  Visitation will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Taylor Mill, KY 41015 from 10 AM-1PM on Saturday, February 4, 2023 with funeral services at 1 PM.   Burial will follow.  A reception will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 East Southern Avenue, Covington, KY 41015 from 3PM-5PM.

Gene was a proud Veteran of WWII where he served in the Navy on the USS Washington in the Pacific Theatre.

He was an independent business owner of Gene’s Barber Shop at Ritte’s Corner in Latonia , KY.

Later, he became Administrator of the Kentucky Barber Board and also served as Chairman of the Board.

He was inducted into the National Barber Hall of Fame in 2008.

Gene was active in tennis as a player, a captain of USTA tennis teams and league coordinator of USTA super-senior tennis.  He also coached tennis at Thomas More College from 1991-97 where led the team to several league championships.  In addition, he was an active volunteer for the Western and Southern ATP/WTA tennis tournament for 30 years.  He received a lifetime achievement recognition for sports when he was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

Another passion of Gene’s was calling square dances where he touched so many people and created lasting friendships.  Local square dance clubs he regularly called for were Beechmont Squares, Hexagon Squares, Kentucky Kuzzins, Tandem Squares and Wheeler Dealers.  Gene was presented the Half-Century Award by Callerlab for 50 years of active square dance calling in May, 2017, at the Ohio Dance Convention.

Gene and Ginny organized trips to various countries around the world with their square dancing friends to travel and promote fellowship.

Gene had a real talent and passion to enriched peoples lives through active participation. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, where visitation will be held Saturday from 10-1 PM.  Burial to follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of their choice.
