Peter F. Kurlas, 84, of Paducah, KY passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022, surrounded by family. In 1937 Northern KY, Pete was born to John and Frances Kurlas. Kentucky was always HOME. This was where his uncles sparked his bass fishing passion, where he sang Doo Wop in The Taboos and The Craters with High School friends, and danced to “that Devil’s Music” Rock and Roll. He helped his mom with raising his sister Sandy and brother Ken and was a proud loving father of 4 daughters. Pete cofounded Goldenrod BassMasters Northern Kentucky Fishing Club and had lifelong friends who fished annually on Lake St. Clair in Canada and at Kentucky Lake, KY. Pete was a maintenance mechanic at Monsanto Port Plastics when he met his wife of 35 years, Cynthia. Together, they attended and hosted family outings, went to SEC Conference Basketball Tournaments and went to UK Football tailgates/games. He created special memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - each had at least one ride on Papa/Grandpa’s knee while he whistled his version of William Tell Overture, a few chats while talking like Donald Duck, and at least one ice-cream cone. After retiring, he had more time to make and use his Reel Thing Lures fishing lures, fish at his favorite locations in Kentucky Lake, and develop a passion for bluegrass music. Pete will be dearly missed and always remembered for a full-loved life.
Pete was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, brother Ken (Cheri), sister Sandy (Rick), daughters Micki (Mike), Christy (Todd), Sherri (Andy), Toni (Jeff) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
