Wanda Daly

May 2, 1942 — July 30, 2022

Wanda Jo Daly, 80, of Covington, Kentucky passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 30, 2022.

Wanda had many interests and passions. She was a wonderful piano player and enjoyed sketching landscapes and wildlife on the farm she spent her later years on. At another period in time, those hobbies could easily have been developed into formal career paths.  She began her work-life at Cintel Credit Union, moving on to waitressing and then as a railroader (crew dispatcher) for the Penn Central Railroad (Conrail). As a Waffle House waitress, you could always find “Wanda Jo” with a smile on her face, yelling orders over to the cook, ”Scattered, smothered, and covered!” She loved the people and atmosphere. She was memorable wherever she went, always an extrovert…and never missed the chance to karaoke. Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” was at the top of her playlist.

A home health nurse in her later life, her calling was to care for elderly patients, enabling them to remain in their home with her personalized, loving care. An avid yard saler and Goodwill purveyor of fine treasures, Wanda loved shopping for baby items and putting together care packages for expectant mothers. It didn’t matter whether they were family members or strangers. It brought her so much joy making lists to ensure new moms had enough onesies and sleepers for their bundle of joy.

Wanda was a devoted member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church and loved her women’s group. She supported missions and very much missed her church family in her declining years when it was no longer possible to attend. Still her heart was with her faith and while a disease erased her memory, her spirit remained ever faithful and was not forgotten when she was finally called home.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Schnell, Eric Niehaus, Mary (Niehaus) Ralles, Brian Niehaus and Michael Meyer. Wanda was also blessed with her beloved thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren with another on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Mabel (Smith) Daly and her son, Robert J. Niehaus. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
